News Flash 4th February 2009
South African 2009 RC Laser Championships Announced
(entries from UK skippers welcome. Contact: rclaser@telkomsa.net for details)

The RCLaser SA National Championships will be sailed at the Pond at Blue Lagoon, Durban on Saturday & Sunday 7th & 8th November 2009.

Terry Flynn writes: "Our Nationals are open to anyone. The Pond is about 4kms from the centre of Durban. It is a man made facility for the old 'wind vane' boats and is very similar to Fleetwood sailing waters just a bit smaller. It is 500 meters from the sea, so it gets the coastal breeze, and situated next to the Umgeni River. I think it is the best place in SA for RCLaser sailing. You are always close to your boat when racing. There is plenty of accommodation nearby from B&Bs to hotels to self catering and as far as a holiday goes, there are game reserves, mountain ranges, the beach and all big city facilities and local attractions. Cape Town is also worth a visit if anyone is going to come which is only a 2 hour flight from Durban. The weather is not yet at its hottest either so all in all a good time to visit and with the Rand/Pound exchange rate of R14 to £1.00 its a real bargain. A 500ml beer is about R13.00. Obviously we will help anyone coming any way we can."

If you're an RC Laser owner in the Leicester district, Graham Smith is keen to hear from you. Even if you don't own a boat yet, but fancy the idea of one-design racing, or if you've got a boat but don't know where to sail it, then contact him and see if we can get a new fleet established. Graham can be emailed at gspillustration@btconnect.com

Well there is now!
