RC Laser Quotable Quotes |
|
|
|
| "You
will be pleased to hear that our fleet in Dun Laoghaire has reached 20 boats.
The interest is incredible with literally hundreds watching the sailing
every Sunday." RB |
|
| "I
think the RC Laser is a breath of fresh air in model yacht racing. It seems
to be creating a revolution. Where traditional classes have failed RC Laser
racing seems to be bringing in NEW people to the sport in ever increasing
numbers. Of the 25 boats at present that Rhu Marina can draw on only 3 are
experienced model racers and even those 3 regularly compete in full size."

"The
conditions dictated using the storm sail on all the boats, and we thought
that this might be a bit daunting for beginners as the boats were really
moving with spray everywhere, and off the wind they were very challenging."

| "ThereÕs
nothing quite like the thrill of dinghy racing; the pre-start manoeuvrings;
the search for clear air; the ever-changing tactical plan which unfolds
as you pit yourself against other sailors and the conditions. Dinghy racing
can easily become an addiction. But as soon as one race finishes all thoughts
stretch towards the next start. Unfortunately, there just arenÕt enough
starts; even a weekend event rarely offers more than six starts to satisfy
the race hungry. ThatÕs why I bought another boat. At first sight not a
brilliant solution to the problem, after all I canÕt race them both at once.
However, this other boat has already enabled me to attend a National Championship
where there were 33 starts over the course of the weekend. The starts, the
shifts, the boat-on-boat tactics were as demanding as any dinghy race, and
all this without even getting wet! " AP |
|
| "There
was some surprise expressed particularly by the [other class] sailors, past
and present, that it is possible to have so much fun with your clothes on,
for an outlay of only £325." BL |
|
| "I
really enjoyed the day [The UK Championships], all the team should be complimented
on holding it all together. Everyone I spoke to seemed to think you got
the emphasis just right.". CG .. |
|
| "Sods
law, am on standby this weekend. However looking forward to the next [RCLaser
meeting], all being equal. I am well impressed with mine [RCLaser], goes
like a bat out of hell. I'm pig sick, for the forecast is plenty of puff!!!.
However, I look forward to hearing all about [The UK Championships] in the
newsletter. Have fun.". DW |
|
| "I
have sailed the Laser about five times only and not against any other boats,
so B Fleet (beginners) (sic. B does not really stand for beginners) for
me I think. Look forward to meeting you and all the other competitors."

| "Thanks
very much for the report [on the UK Championships]. I was delighted to have
my name in print. Alan & I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and have decided
that come what may we shall be back next year.". LW |
|
| "
If I were to return to dinghy racing now, after having raced a radio controlled
yacht for some years, I would be so much more successful. In RC racing you
get a perspective of the race you just do not get when sitting in the boat".

|
| "This
is pure model yacht racing at its best. No complicated measuring - no 'cheque
book' winners - no complicated rigs to set up. Just pure skill. Just the
job! I love it." (anon ex development class skipper) |
|
| "Went
sailing the RC Laser today and have decided to buy another, to put it simply
hooked would be an appropriate phrase.". MS |
|
| "For
when the One Great Scorer comes To write against your name, He marks not
that you won or lost, But how you played the game."
Attributed to Grantland Rice (1880 - 1954) and submitted by DF who says "What makes RC Laser sailing different is that it is 'amateurish', in the best English sense of the word. All levels of experience and expertise mingle happily. Being there and taking part is just as important as winning. Let's hope it stays that way." |
